Come think and talk about BIG IDEAS and have lunch!
The human drive to invent new things has led to pathbreaking achievements in medicine, science, and society. But our desire for innovation can keep us from seeing one of the most powerful paths to progress: subtraction. Engineer Leidy Klotz says sometimes the best way forward involves removing, streamlining, and simplifying things.
Shankar Vedantam, from the podcast Hidden Brain, helps us look at the best ways to innovate.
Join us for lunch and a chance to listen to this podcast and discuss the concepts and how they relate to being an innovator and entrepreneur. ECenter Challenge participants will earn 500 points each for attending this event.
The Maurice Prize for Innovation, offered by the ECenter, provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to win $5,000 by pursuing their ideas, emphasizing the importance of learning from the process rather than the outcome.

Eat Some Yummy Food and Think about BIG Ideas!
Most of us love to brainstorm with colleagues. But so often, our idea-generating sessions don’t lead to anything tangible. Teams fill up walls with sticky notes about creative possibilities and suggestions for improvement, but nothing actually gets implemented. Some researchers even have a name for it: “innovation theater.”
This week, we explore the science of execution. Psychologist Bob Sutton tells us how to move from innovation theater . . . to actual innovation. Shankar Vedantam, from the podcast Hidden Brain, walks us through the best ways to execute on your ideas!
Join us for lunch while we listen to the podcast and stay for a short discussion!
